About Us

Hello we are Pathema! We are a multi-genre recording project and band from Marion, IN, consisting of Dewayne Hughes on guitar and vocals, and Zach Hughes on drums. Dewayne started writing songs in late 2016 while Zach was just starting to learn to play drums. After a few years playing together, in late 2019, we decided to record all these songs for an album by ourselves in our home and at The Piano Shop in Gas City, IN, owned by Jim Turner. Both of us overdubbed parts such as vocal, bass guitar, lead guitar, piano, organ, and trumpet. Our friend Samuel Basher is featured playing piano on two songs, "Someday" and "Still". During the time of recording the album Dewayne worked long hours at a 3rd shift job with only one day off per week to work on the album with Zach. The recording process was long and challenging due to limited time, technical difficulties, limited and dated equipment, and various re-tracking. However we persevered and overcame these challenges. Most of the recording was completed by fall 2022. About a month after the majority of recording was completed Zach was injured in a car accident in late 2022. We focused on Zach's recovery for the first half of 2023. By the summer of 2023 Zach was well enough to continue. We then put the finishing touches on the album and sent it off to be mixed and mastered by Christopher Swinney at the Gallows Recording Studio. The cover art was painted by April Weller. The Album was released on October 27th 2023. There are many people who helped us accomplish this. We have listed them in the booklet of the CD.
